Technical Artist (f/d/m)
About the Role
HOLOGATE is looking for a skilled and versatile Technical Artist (m/f/d) to strengthen our Art & Development teams. In this role, you will work at the intersection of art and technology, ensuring that sound, visual effects, and animations are seamlessly integrated into our immersive XR and VR experiences.
With a strong focus on audio implementation in Unreal Engine, real-time VFX, and animation workflows, you will play a key role in elevating the quality, performance, and emotional impact of our products—ranging from entertainment experiences to enterprise and training solutions.

Your Responsibilities
Sound & Audio (Unreal Engine Focus)
Implement, optimize, and maintain sound systems in Unreal Engine
Integrate spatial audio, sound cues, sound classes, and sound mixes
Collaborate with designers and programmers to ensure immersive and responsive audio behavior
Optimize audio performance for real-time XR/VR applications
VFX & Real-Time Effects
Create and implement real-time visual effects using Niagara and Unreal Engine
Optimize VFX for performance while maintaining high visual quality
Collaborate with artists and developers to integrate effects into gameplay and interactions
Animation & Technical Art
Support and implement character and object animations in Unreal Engine
Bridge animation, rigging, and engine implementation
Troubleshoot animation- and shader-related issues
Support technical pipelines and workflows between Art and Development
General Technical Art Responsibilities
Act as a technical interface between artists and programmers
Optimize assets, shaders, and effects for performance and stability
Develop and maintain tools, workflows, and documentation to improve production efficiency
Support profiling, debugging, and optimization in Unreal Engine
Your Profile
Professional experience as a Technical Artist, Technical Animator, or similar role
Strong hands-on experience with Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5)
Proven experience with audio implementation in Unreal Engine
Experience creating and implementing real-time VFX (Niagara)
Solid understanding of animation pipelines and real-time animation systems
Strong technical understanding of performance optimization in real-time environments
Ability to collaborate closely with artists, designers, and programmers
Structured, solution-oriented working style
Very good English skills; German is a plus
Nice to Have
Experience with XR, VR, or real-time simulation projects
Knowledge of audio middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD)
Experience with shaders, materials, and Blueprint scripting
Experience supporting complex, multi-platform real-time applications
