Hedvig is rewriting the rules of insurance, proving that it’s possible to disrupt an entire industry while keeping people’s best interests at heart. We’re on a mission to make insurance genuinely great and that starts with building products that deliver real value. AI is becoming a core part of how we build, and we’re now searching for someone who can help us take the next step.

What about the role?
We are looking for a driven backend-focused software engineer with hands-on experience building AI-powered functionality in production, who can help us shape and improve our AI-powered product experiences at Hedvig. You will work across our stack, collaborate closely with product and design, and contribute directly to bringing practical, reliable AI capabilities into our products.

A concrete example of the work: we're automating parts of our claims journey, so that straightforward claims can be resolved in minutes, end to end. That means real customers, real money, and a high bar for getting it right. The interesting problems are in the edge cases, the evals, and knowing when to hand off to a human.

You’ll spend most of your time building features, designing systems, and improving our product. You'll also take part in our AI initiatives, trying out approaches, sharing what you learn, and helping shape how we use, and utilize, AI responsibly and effectively.

You’ll work with our modern tech stack, which includes:

  • Kotlin with Spring Boot

  • Next.js and Vercel

  • Swift

  • GraphQL

  • Microservices

  • Services on AWS and GCP

  • A wide variety of LLM implementations, both from the major suppliers as well as local models

You don’t need to be an expert in all of these, but you should be comfortable navigating complex systems and learning new technologies when needed.

What about you?
You have strong engineering fundamentals and a track record of delivering high-quality software. You are knowledgeable about, and intrigued by, the new capabilities that cutting-edge AI can enable, and you already use AI as part of how you build — shipping AI-assisted code into production systems, with judgment about where these tools accelerate real work and where they need close human review.

We believe you’ll thrive here if you:

  • Have a couple of years of hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating AI or LLM-powered functionality in production. You’ve worked beyond prototypes and experimentation and have dealt with the realities of making AI features reliable for actual users

  • Have experience in areas such as LLM integrations, model APIs, agentic or automated workflows, evaluations, guardrails, observability, or human-in-the-loop systems. You don’t need experience in all of these, but we expect meaningful depth in some of them

  • Come from a mostly backend-heavy background and are comfortable designing and owning production systems

  • Bring strong computer science fundamentals and a pragmatic approach to system design

  • Are comfortable working through ambiguity and finding the simplest thing that works without over-engineering

  • Are motivated by solving real customer problems, with a focus on purposeful and impactful use of technology

What about us?
At Hedvig, we challenge assumptions, push boundaries, and believe great ideas can come from anywhere. We foster a culture of trust, ownership, and curiosity, where mistakes are part of learning, feedback is normal, and engineers can grow and make a real impact.
